I love water. Why, you ask? Too many reasons to count, but I’ll try!
Considering that our bodies are made of nearly 70% water, it makes sense that staying hydrated provides a multitude of health benefit.
Firstly, water is the best appetite suppressant on the market, and secondly…. water can increase energy, prevent headaches, flush toxins from our body, and improve your ability to exercise!
The best part is that staying hydrated seems pretty simple, because it is so simple. In fact, here are 6 of the easiest ways to drink more water.
1. Wake Up, Drank.
Thanks for the inspiration, Kendrick Lamar. We naturally wake up dehydrated because, unless you suffer from sleep-drinking, you probably haven’t been consuming any fluids during your ideal 8 hours of sleep. Not only that, but our bodies have a tough time sending us clear messages first thing in the morning (I don’t make much sense before coffee either). Sometimes our bodies will tell us we are hungry when, in actuality, we are just dehydrated. To avoid mixed messages, have a glass of water first thing. I like to have a glass ready to drink on my nightstand to start my day.
2. Sneak Fluid in Your Food
The gorgeous, glamorous Miss Tyra Banks is a big believer in soup, and so am I! Vegetable soup is perfect; it’s full of fiber and fluid that will keep you feeling full without all those pesky calories! And speaking of vegetables…. Vegetables and fruits are super high in water content. In fact, about 20% of your daily water intake comes from solid foods! Fruits and vegetables that are at least 90% water by weight include broccoli, cantaloupe, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, grapefruit, green peppers, lettuce, radishes, spinach, star fruit, strawberries, tomatoes, watermelon. So many options for staying hydrated!
3. Invest in a Water Bottle
Have your water bottle make a statement! Whether you like bottles with inspirational workout quotes, blinged out bottles, aluminum canteens, BPA-free bottles that are covered in hipster logos.. It doesn’t matter! Just invest in the one that you like the most! You’ll enjoy drinking from it, which will encourage you to drink more water throughout the day! Plus, you’ll save on buying bottled water (Save the Planet, Go Green!)
4. Get iDrated
Yes, there is an app for that! This fancy shmancy app will not only remind you to keep on sipping throughout the day, but it will also track how much water you drink over time. The app has really clean graphics, is simple to use, and it really does work according to GLAMOUR! If you’re not an Apple gal, Android has “Water Your Body” and “Carbodroid” which essentially do the same thing.
5. Try Sparkling Water
Servers always offer the option of bubbly water or still water in Europe, why not in the US?! For some people, still water just doesn’t have the same… spark as sparkling water (you see what I did there)?! Sparkling water is just as hydrating as regular water and, unlike soda, it is calorie-free and sugar-free. Some sparkling waters like to add natural flavors. My favorites are LaCroix® Peach Pear, Dasani® Berry, or classic Perrier. But hey, you make your own decisions.
6. My Coffee Lovers
Most people are aware that the caffeine in coffee, tea, or sodas has a diuretic effect, thus drinking these fluids can actually cause you to become somewhat dehydrated. I know you LOVE that caffeine high, but it is recommended that you switch between caffeinated and un-caffeinated beverages throughout the day if you are anything like me and feel the need to stay a little buzzed all day long.
